Project Kirchweidach: an update

Following a successful 3D-scan of the Molasse Basin North of Kirchweidach (East of Munich) in February and March 2010, plans for the construction of a geothermal power plant quickly took shape.

Early August saw the beginning of construction work and the set up of a 350 ton drill is currently being prepared. A one ha (10,000 sq m) area was filled with a layer of concrete, the sewage system is laid down and the street lights are installed. Once drilling has commenced it will be ongoing until mid-2011 and once completed the geothermal power plant will be built.

This power plant is set to convert geothermal energy into power as well as feeding it into the local distribution system providing emission-free and ecological power and heating.
