Canton Lucerne Representatives on a Visit for Inspection of the Kirchweidach Drilling Site

Climate-neutral power generation and the debate on the nuclear power phase-out have meanwhile become topics of considerable public prominence in Switzerland, which is why all over Switzerland, such as also in Canton Lucerne, the use of deep geothermal energy is to be promoted. The Canton Lucerne Department of Construction, Environment and Economy are currently proactively working on providing some basic conditions. A multidisciplinary work group set up especially for this purpose will prepare the necessary bills and technical reports by the end of 2011, including also the creation of a centre of excellence with a corresponding network both at home and abroad.

Mr. Marcel Obrist, the head of the Environment and Energy Service including the specialist divisions of Geology, Groundwater and Residual Pollution, paid a visit to the Kirchweidach drilling site in order to gather information and to make precious contacts with competent specialists in a neighbouring country. Within the framework of the tasks and functions incumbent upon Canton Lucerne as the authority issuing the permits and the cantonal specialist service, these contacts will be available to all further actors involved in the issue of deep geothermal energy. Power plant specialist Dr. Günter Schneider and Mr. Dieter Geiger from the FG.de Group of Companies were on the site in order to provide the appropriate advice to Mister Obrist.
